Issue 1 – July 7, 2006

Shots of the Week:

·         Thank you to CTC for sponsoring our curling club website and domain!  Dave Lekatz has been working diligently to get the site up and running.  We’ll publish the official link as soon as it is available.

·         All the committees have held their first meetings.  The highlights follow in the Committees Rock section of the newsletter.  All those interested in helping are welcome to join a committee!

·         The date of the next Board of Directors meeting has been set.  All members are welcome to attend.  July 13, 2006 at 7:00 at Dave’s Pizza.

·         We have officially received our Articles of Incorporation back from the Secretary of State's office...and the Brainerd Lakes Curling Association has been approved as a Minnesota non profit organization as of 23 Jun 06.

Committees Rock:

Read on to hear the recent committee updates and news.

·          The Building Committee is researching four options for a dedicated curling facility, and will be planning a field trip to other curling clubs to gather information.  All members welcome.  Mike Deiss is the chair.

·         The Equipment Committee is exploring alternatives for purchasing rocks, brooms and sliders.  Several new sources have materialized.  Frank Worden is the chair.

·         The Fundraising Committee is initiating a letter to be sent to local service clubs to request start up funding donations.  A chair is still needed.

·         The Membership Committee has consolidated all the lists of interested curlers generated through our meetings and open house and working to estimate the number of curlers already planning to join the upcoming league.  If you plan to join but haven’t yet, please contact Kim Deiss to be sure you are counted.  A chair is still needed.

·         The Technology Committee is working to get the website up and live.

·         The League Planning Committee is creating a plan for two league scenarios, one for 64 players and one for 128 players.

·         Other Work:  John Raboin is drafting by-laws; We are seeking a representative to attend the USCA Member Services Conference on July 27-28, call Kim if you would like to attend.

Club Mission Statement and Vision:  To help guide the decisions of the club moving forward, it is helpful to establish a mission and a vision for the organization.  Below is an idea of what our mission and vision could read.  This is just a thought starter!  We’ll discuss these items at the July Board Meeting.  Please contact Kim Deiss (825-0043) with your ideas if you can’t make it to the meeting.

Mission Statement-- The BLCA is dedicated to providing affordable, fun curling to a community of curlers in the Brainerd Lakes area, and further the growth and appreciation of the sport of curling.

Vision-- The BLCA will be a self-supporting recreational and instructional curling organization that is a permanent regional presence and has established the Brainerd Lakes area as a curling destination.
